HypnoBirthing®
The Mongan Method
"Taking the birthing world by calm. "
Q: What is hypnosis?
A: While it might sound unbelievable, many people experience hypnosis on a daily basis. Have you ever been driving in your car, and then all of the sudden realize you are at your destination without really thinking about it or remembering your drive? Have you ever “zoned out” in front of a fire and heard someone talking to you but just couldn’t force yourself to listen? Those are a few examples of hypnosis, or what it’s like to be hypnotized. You are not in a trance or a deep sleep, but rather a heightened state of awareness where you are only allowing yourself to concentrate on very specific things (i.e. your thoughts while driving or the crackling warmth of the fire.)
Most people think hypnosis is an involuntary experience; something that is "done" to someone to manipulate their behavior. That couldn’t be further from the truth! There is no such thing as involuntary hypnosis. Hypnosis is only possible when the participant willingly chooses it.
Q: What does hypnosis have to do with childbirth?
A: Although the word “hypnosis” may sound a little funny, many, many women use – and have used – hypnosis during childbirth without even realizing it. When a laboring woman becomes completely enveloped in her labor, she focuses all of her energy, thoughts and feelings on her childbirth and loses awareness for the things around her. She is not concerned about the weather, who is standing in the room or even what people say to her. She is completely and totally involved in herself and what she is doing; and it’s a beautiful thing! In this focused state of concentration (i.e. hypnosis), a laboring woman is able to listen to her body and move, labor and love her baby into this world, unencumbered.

Q: So how does HypnoBirthing work? A: HypnoBirthing is the specific program that teaches a pregnant woman how to train her body to effortlessly slip into hypnosis and use proven relaxation methods to birth her baby in a calm, relaxed, loving manner. Founded by Marie Mongan, it has been used by thousands of women worldwide, and is the gold standard of birthing with hypnosis. |

Q: What will I/we learn in class? Who attends the class?
A: The HypnoBirthing course is broken into 5 sessions, with each session about 2 & ½ hours each. In class, we will cover every aspect of childbirth – from the onset of labor through birth and bonding with your baby. We will watch birth videos, practice relaxation techniques, practice hypnosis, go over labor/birthing positions, answer questions and more! My goal for every person who takes my class is to answer every, single question about childbirth so they are confident and informed when they welcome their new baby into this world. The key to the success of HypnoBirthing is removing doubt and fear so the birthing mom can completely focus her energy and love on her birthing experience. The class is designed for the birthing mother and her husband or birthing companion.
Q: What is the fee? What do I need for class?
A: The fee is $295 for group lessons; $395 for private lessons, and I do accept payment plans. Your fee covers all five-class sessions, the HypnoBirthing textbook, class handouts and my unlimited assistance with questions before/after/during class. Simply come dressed in comfortable clothes (I often wear yoga pants & a t-shirt) and bring an open heart and mind. Light snacks and beverages are provided for every session.

A: HypnoBirthing is like most everything – its success is directly tied to your effort. If you commit to the program and practice as often as possible in class and at home, you WILL BE SUCCESSFUL in having a calm, relaxed and loving childbirth experience! You will learn how to easily and quickly put yourself into self-hypnosis, and you will trust your birthing body, without question.

Q: So that means I won’t be able to feel anything? That childbirth will be “easy” and “painless?”
A: HypnoBirthing is not a magic bullet; it does not guarantee a pain-free birth. Many HypnoBirthing moms experience a “painless” childbirth, however, like most everything, pain is relative. What is considered uncomfortable for one may be considered easy for another. HypnoBirthing teaches you how to control the intensity of the sensations you will feel during labor and delivery. So if your goal is a pain-free birth or a short labor, it’s totally up to you! You will set those goals in the beginning of the course, and I will help you focus on these goals throughout our time together and up until you birth your baby.
Q: Why are you so passionate about HypnoBirthing?
A: This is an easy one! After using HypnoBirthing for the births of my two children, it permanently imprinted in my heart that a child’s birth experience is the foundation of his or her trust in you and in this world. I knew that I wanted to help other families experience the same wonderful birth experiences and bonding with their children that my husband and I were lucky enough to have, so I became certified as a HypnoBirthing Childbirth Educator. I have a deep appreciation for pregnant mothers and the beautiful process of birth, and look forward to working with couples that share my philosophy of honoring new life with joyous celebration, love and confidence!
